Welcome to my farm.
My mission is to preserve vanishing historic varieties of poultry. Domestic ducks, geese, turkeys and chickens fit right in to small family farms of the past. I think they still do.
I hope to hang on to rare breeds of poultry so that future generations can enjoy them, and to demonstrate to today's homesteaders that heritage poultry are not just pretty birds; they are productive and useful in small scale, sustainable, local agriculture.
Chickcharney Farm is my family's homestead in the piedmont of North Carolina. To learn more about the heritage poultry that I raise, or to find out how you can add them to your homestead, click on the images to the left.
What does sustainable farming mean to me?
- Producing healthful, high-quality food for my family's table and yours.
- Using the advantages of my farm's environment, without using it up or wearing it out.
- There's no such thing as "garbage". All organic material the farm produces can nourish people, animals, or the soil.
- Providing a comfortable, low-stress lifestyle for my animals and myself.
